U18s pull off last minute tie

Nelson Rep

ALDERGROVE – Nelson ties Vernon 2-2

Submitted by Chris Richards, Assistant Coach, U18B Selects

Just finished our second game. Played Vernon, and unfortunately didn’t go quite as well as before. We started the game really poorly, and didn’t put in anywhere near the effort that should of been present. We managed to keep it out for a while but with about 20 minutes gone they managed to put one in the back of our net. We again let them come at as again and were really lucky to get into half time only 1-0 down.

After a really stern talking to by Keith they went out and started to play like they can. We started pushing them really hard and it paid off as Jules Chopin pushed into the area he was a brought down from behind and we were awarded a penalty. Scott Sims took the pressure on and slotted it into the bottom corner. From there we never looked like losing. Unfortunately not always the obvious happens in soccer. They countered one of our attacks and we couldn’t clear it, one of their players broke through and slotted it past our keeper. From there we switched up our formation and played a 3-5-2. It payed off, Jules played a cross field ball to Byron, who beat one player and slotted it in the bottom corner. That was basically the last kick of the game, so we tied the game 2-2.

Our player of the game was Luke Mori, who was extremely industreous on the both left and right flanks.
