ALDERGROVE – Nelson ties Port Coquitlam 2-2
Submitted by Chris Richards, Assistant Coach, U18B Selects
So stressful today! We went into the game this morning and it looked as though the soccer Gods were just not wanting to play in our favour. We started well and had a couple of clear chances but could only hit their keeper. We kept pressing and it almost payed off. We hit the crossbar twice once by Luke Mori and once by Scott Sims from a free kick. Byron then hit the post. Then bad luck struck again a poor call gave them a corner kick. They played it well and we got scored on. We picked up our game and got rewarded Byron Rokeby-Thomas got onto a lose ball inside the area took one touch and slotted into the bottom corner. We took that as a sign to keep pressing and we started to assert our authority. We again got unlucky though on a counter attack there was a mix up between our defence and our keeper and the ball squirted loose and they capitalized, taking the score to 2-1. We looked slightly taken aback by this latest development and we struggled to get back into the game. Lucky for us half time came and it gave us a chance to talk to the boys. We sent them back out and we started to play like we can again. The ball was given to Byron on the right wing and he beat two players slotting it past the helpless keeper. From there we had 3 or 4 really good chances and we just couldn’t capitalize. The game ended 2-2. Player of the game for us was Byron for the two goals he got.
From there we had to rely on Vernon to beat Cowichan. Luckily for us after a really tense game Vernon came away with the 1-0 victory which puts us into the final tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
